NIO

Nicaraguan Córdoba

NIO is the official currency of Nicaragua, named after the Spanish explorer Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. It is issued by the Central Bank of Nicaragua (Banco Central de Nicaragua).

The córdoba is subdivided into 100 centavos and operates under a crawling peg exchange rate system. Modern banknotes in denominations from 10 to 500 córdobas are printed on polymer, while the 1,000 córdoba note uses cotton paper. The currency was introduced in 1912.
