SHP is the official currency of Saint Helena and Ascension Island. It is fixed at parity with the British pound sterling.

The Saint Helena pound was established in 1976 through the Currency Fund Ordinance. Both the SHP and GBP are legal tender on the islands. Due to limited circulation, the SHP is not commonly available in international forex markets. Tristan da Cunha, the third part of the territory, uses sterling only.
