DZD

Algerian Dinar

DZD is the official currency of Algeria. It is issued by the Bank of Algeria and is subdivided into 100 centimes, though centimes are obsolete.

The dinar was introduced in 1964, replacing the Algerian franc at par. It is not freely convertible, and the government maintains strict foreign currency exchange controls. A parallel market exists with rates differing from official rates. Algeria's hydrocarbon exports heavily influence the currency's value.
